About Us

The Public History Project is an initiative of faculty in the Department of History at York University. Its goal is to establish an open dialogue and build closer links between academic history and public history. In particular, the project is looking for ways that students can learn more about the work of museums, archives, historic sites, historical societies, and other heritage organizations through class projects or actual work experience as volunteers, interns, or placements. The creation of The Public History Directory is the first step in enabling faculty and students to become more aware of the huge range of public-history programming that is available in the Greater Toronto Area.
